Ayesha Mayadas

Ayesha Mayadas was born in Calcutta, India and moved to Rochester, NY at age 15. After a thirteen year career as a textile engineer, she finally decided to pursue her passion for metals and dedicate herself to it full-time. In 1997, she joined the Rochester Institute of Technology to pursue a Masters in Metals. Her initial interest was in traditional silversmithing, but eventually turned from traditional techniques of hammering and forming towards more sculptural and abstract vessels made in copper and silver. Today, the techniques she uses are just miniature versions of those she used to create her sculpture. Her wearable pieces in silver, gold and platinum are inspired by nature and are like small tactile sculptures that offer little glimpses into nature; the ripple of water, the fullness of a raindrop, the broken edge of a dried leaf.
